After a 111 ft wind turbine collapsed in Devon, the manufacturer have issued a warnings that the structural grout holding the tower to its foundations had failed.
They also issued a warning that other turbines could have similar failings. However, as there were bolts missing at the base of the collapsed tower, sabotage is also suspected because there is a lot of opposition to turbines.
One thing for certain, as there are more and more wind turbines built, it seems inevitable that there will be other incidents.
As the cost of insurance will wipe out most of the profit earned, it is unlikely that many wind farms will be adequately insured.
